Directions & Parking

Parking @ RICE

Parking for most events at the Rice Media Center is by paid credit card in West Lot 1 (Alice Pratt Brown) and now Moody Lot (next to Tudor Field House and across from the new Moody Center for the Arts that is under construction).  West Lot 5 is also open as a paid visitor lot.

Parking for Sewall Hall is by paid credit card in Lovett Lot.

Parking for Hamman Hall is paid by credit card in North Lot (weekdays from 5:30 p.m. through 5:30 a.m. and on weekends).

Please go to parking.rice.edu for more information, maps and parking rates>>

Credit Card (All Surface Lots)

Machines at the entrance gates will instruct the driver to insert a credit card (American Express, VISA, MasterCard or Discover). When the gate opens and the vehicle enters, the computer's "parking meter" begins. Upon leaving, the visitor drives to the exit gate and inserts the same credit card. It is very important to use the same credit card used at entry while exiting, otherwise the computer will not recognize the card. The gate will open within a few seconds, at which time the meter stops. The computer calculates the time, checks for fee approval and automatically bills the credit card.  IMPORTANT - if you are issued a validation, please insert it FIRST into the machine, it will keep the validation.  Then, insert the credit card used at the entry and the gate will open.

Cash or Credit Card (Central Campus and BRC Garages only)

At the garage entrance, the driver uses his credit card or pulls an entry ticket from the machine to open the gate. The visitor is instructed to park on the first floor (B1). If the visitor pulled a ticket, he or she will carry the entry ticket with them when they exit the car. When ready to leave, the visitor stops at the "pay-on-foot" machine near the elevators. As instructed by the machine, the visitor inserts the ticket into the machine and is shown the amount owed. The visitor may then pay with cash (coins or paper currency) or credit card. The machine issues an exit ticket. The visitor then drives to the exit gate, inserts the exit ticket, and the gate opens. To print a receipt, the visitor can push the button next to the word "Receipt" on the pay-on-foot machines.  IMPORTANT - if you are issued a validation, please insert it FIRST into the machine, it will keep the validation.  Then, insert the credit card used or ticket pulled at the entry and the gate will open.

Please note: When entry tickets are used, multiple tickets may be paid sequentially using a single credit card. When entering by inserting a credit card, only one car may enter per credit card.

Accessible Parking

Accessible Parking is available in nearly all Rice University parking areas. Parking spaces are marked and are reserved for vehicles holding either a state or Rice issued accessible hangtag or state license plate. Accessible Parking spots are situated nearby shuttle stops for easy transportation. All Rice shuttles are equipped to carry passengers in vehicles, and provide this service either through a ramp or a lift. Please refer to our campus map for specific Accessible Parking locations.

Individuals who require an accessible parking hangtag should contact Disability Services and present the proper documentation in support of their request. Disability Services will then email our department with the details of the arrangement once the parking is approved. Customers must be registered before receiving temporary disability parking.

If an employee or student possesses a state-issued hangtag, access will automatically be given to accessible parking with a standard fee for the permit. Lot availability may vary due to lot capacity.
